One of the most important parts of your plan is the answer to the question: ‘When will you do this?’
If you’ve set yourself reasonable dates to complete each of the sub-goals in your action plan,
you can monitor your progress.
If you miss your own deadline dates, you need to ask yourself:

- Why did I miss the deadline?
- What can I do to catch up with my plan?
- Are there other parts of my plan that this affects?
- Go back to your action plan and put a big tick next to the sub-goal. Well done – you have completed part of your career journey.
- And then go out and celebrate. Get your partner to take you out for dinner or spend some money on something that you deserve!
- Avoid putting it off – even if you can only come up with a few, small actions to improve your working life. But ideally, you should devise an action plan to help you achieve your career goals.
- Consider the barriers and obstacles in your life that prevent you from achieving your goals. How can you overcome them?
- And keep coming back to your action plan. Plans are only useful if they are kept up to date.
